Oxychilus cellarius is a European invasive found through cooler climate areas of SE Australia and in old residential and industrial areas in Sydney, eg. along Alexandria Canal at St Peters, along railway corridor land at Marrickville etc. It was once common in cellars hence the name cellarius.
Oxychilus cellarius is slightly larger than O. alliarus (to 11mm in diameter) and lacks the strong garlic/onion smell. It is paler in colour and has more whorls than O. alliarus. The whorls in O. cellarius increase more slowly than O. alliarus and are more tightly coiled.
