The caterpillars live in a case covered with small pieces of chewed bark. adults are grey with a variable pattern of darker and lighter blotches or speckles.
It is similar in size to Lepidoscia saxosa, which has narrower forewings and is usually plain mottled grey-brown without the darker and lighter blotches or speckles of C. guildingi.
