Maybe Lacrymaria sp but more detailed images would make ID easier

What sort of detail?

Of the gills and how they attach in relation to the stem; is the stem solid or hollow; in the fungus growing in soil or on a woody substrate; absolutely everything you can see when observing this. The cap appears to have been wet as the firbils look matted - had it been raining recently?

...or, are there in fact gills on the underside of the cap?

No gills in fact. But pores. I have added extra photos. Growing at the base of E. mannifera so probably growing on wood. Has been present looking like it does now since 2 June. May have been exposed to rain before then.

Gorgeous, new pics are great thanks - appears to be one of the Boletellus spp without any of the pink in the cap but showing some at the apex of the stem - very interesting. Is there only one? Are you able to make a herbarium collection?

There is only one that I have seen so far although there might be a smaller one growing next to it. The rain that it could have been exposed to would have been about 22 May.
What is involved in making a herbarium collection?

It was probably not rained on. It was quite fresh on 2 June.

Dig the entire specimen and dry it in a dehydrator, providing it is on private land, if not you will require a license

But what do I do with it once it is dried?

Take it and all your notes, with your name, location and pics to the herbarium for storage and to confirm identification; either to Canberra or to Orange.

Will think about it.
