The patterns of C. nodosa, C. belophora and C. banksiaria larvae to me appear indistinguishable.

Moths of Vic. Part 5 shows 2 forms of this caterpillar being from the Chlenias banksiaria group. My specimens correspond with Larva sp. (b). The 2 types are separated by the form of the band above the yellow band along the caterpillars side with white breaks & a black dot in each. Ones like mine designated Larva sp. (b) is descibed as "..a complex latteral pattern of broken, white lines on a black background." (MoV Pt5 CD) Larva sp. (a) (not mine) "... have a single, broken, white, lateral line on a black background."

Interesting, thanks. The LBH C. belophora larva from Coupar's Flying Colours, seems to be type 'a' ; LBH C. nodosus and C. banksiaria both type 'b'. I rather thought they were just different instars ?
