User's notes

Seems like this an undescribed species. I found 2 similar ACT observations by Donald Hobern on iNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/20308726 https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/7409917 I can't find a match in BOLD, either named or unnamed. I can't see a match in Canberra NatureMapr either. 30 seconds to observe and photograph, 4 hours to not be able to ID :(

Idaea (genus) is not well represented on Canberra NatureMapr, but great work.

I agree with Dianne, this sighting looks identical to Don Hobern's two sightings on iNaturalist at Aranda ACT identified as 'Idaea (genus)'. There is no dark 'collar' and the there is a strong reddish costa. Whereas most set specimens I can clearly see on Bold seem to have a clear dark collar and lack the reddish tinge along the costa.

Perhaps the species is sexually dimorphic. I have created the species I. iodesma for the field guide Taxonomy but I'm not sure this sighting is that species. I further note the most sightings to date of I. iodesma on iNaturalist and the ALA are from northern coastal NSW and SE Queensland.
