@RogerF thanks so much Roger. I might add that Boris was tentative with his suggestion of L. discoidalis too (he added a “me thinks” in the comment area). We now have quite a few sightings so do you think it’s best to leave them as I have them now or would you prefer me to move them to a new taxon to be classified at a later date? (Or is that maybe a Michael question). Hoping you can help, thanks so much, appreciate your thoughts😊

When I first saw this beetle with you at your father's property, I sent pictures to Chris Reid but he was reluctant to go beyond Lamprolima sp. so I am quite happy with the suggestion of L discoidalis with a Bursaria as a host plant. I should add that I am not a taxonomist but can often tell when something is different from the usual suspects.

@LisaH thats fine chickadee. With photos it’s often a case of most-suitable key characteristics matching a known taxon at the time & as new information arises then we can amend accordingly. I mentioned on one of your other sightings that I was hesitant to bring them to species-level but I took some time investigating these ones as they have individual pronotal dots rather than joined (discoid shape) but the shape and placement look good for L. discoidalis. The decider for me was Boris Buche on iNat. He is a Curator who sometimes liaises with Entomologist Martin Lagerway & he has verified these exact markings on an iNat observation as the closest fit for this point in time. Please keep me posted if you find out any different when your specimen has been studied further. If @RogerF doesnt agree with Lamprolina discoidalis, I’m more than happy to setup a “Lamprolina (To Be Classified)” taxon and move these ones and others the same across to be classified at a later date when we know more. PS. You mentioned host plant on Bursaria & it is a known host plant of Lamprolina sp.😊💚

@LisaH I can’t provide any further information about this species I’m sorry. I was following the previously ID’d photos we currently have on file & comparing against the same characteristics & commentary on ALA & iNaturalist. Please let me know if Roger comes up with alternative identification so we can amend your sighting if necessary😊
